Headies disqualifies Portable over death threat

The Headies Awards has disqualified singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable over incessant negative attention and threatening to kill fellow nominees.

Headies, in a statement on Tuesday said it regretted to announce that Portable had been disqualified from the award over indicting statements the singer had been making.

The body said the organisation had resolved to disqualify him as a nominee at the forthcoming 15th Headies Awards.

“The decision to disqualify Mr. Okikiola is accentuated by series of misdemeanours by Mr. Okikiola via his social media platforms. On the 25th of May 2022, he threatened to kill, harm or cause harm to the other nominees in the same categories of the awards he was nominated for, if he does not emerge the winner,” it added.

           The Nigerian Senate on Tuesday said that a high-powered delegation to meet one on one with Senator Ike Ekweremadu in London, United Kingdom. Ike Ekweremadu, who was the former Deputy Senate President, was detained alongside his wife over alleged “organ harvesting” in the United Kingdom. The Senate’s decision was after they met behind closed doors for two hours and 30 minutes on Wednesday. The Senate President, Dr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan commended defence lawyers to Senator Ekweremadu and his wife, who he said were working hard to get them out of detention. He said that he met with the British High Commissioner who briefed him on progress of the case as well as details of what transpired Lawan added that the Senate delegation would include the members of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs. “The Senate delegation will include members of the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs who shall travel out in two days time”, Lawan said.
